Relationships, Sex and Health (RSHE) education is usually covered in PSHE lessons through which pupils develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to manage their lives, now and in the future. It helps children and young people to stay healthy and safe, while preparing them to make the most of life and work.
At WVPS we follow the 'Kapow' scheme, taking a mindful approach to PSHE. It brings together Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education, including statutory Relationships, Sex and Health Education, giving children relevant learning experiences to help them navigate their world and to develop positive relationships with themselves and others.
There is a strong emphasis on emotional literacy, building resilience and nurturing mental and physical health.
The Kapow scheme is supplimented by bespoke lessons and units which are planned by class teachers to meet the needs of their individual pupils. This included an RSE curriculum in Upper Key Stage 2 which has been planned by us to meet the requirements of the statutory guidance, full details of this can be found in our Relationships and Health policy.
Each year group from Year 1 to Year 6 will work on these units:
Pupils in our EYFS are taught the elements of PSHE through continuous provision in order to support them to develop confidence, compassion and understanding of themselves and the world around them.
We ensure that the children also experience the process of democracy in school through Pupil Parliament. We also teach them about rights and responsibilities as a 'Rights Respecting School'.
We also promote positive Mental Health and Well-Being. See information on our Well-Being page: https://www.waddesdonprimary.com/well-being/
