Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education is a school subject through which pupils develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to manage their lives, now and in the future. It helps children and young people to stay healthy and safe, while preparing them to make the most of life and work.
At WVPS we follow the 'Jigsaw' scheme, taking a mindful approach to PSHE. It brings together Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education, including statutory Relationships and Health Education, giving children relevant learning experiences to help them navigate their world and to develop positive relationships with themselves and others.
There is a strong emphasis on emotional literacy, building resilience and nurturing mental and physical health. Jigsaw lessons also include mindfulness allowing children to advance their emotional awareness, concentration and focus.
Each year group from Reception to Year 6 will work on these units:
We ensure that the children also experience the process of democracy in school through Pupil Parliament. We also teach them about rights and responsibilities as a 'Rights Respecting School'.
